Paul Peabody // MTL 2010 Conference Chairman
Vice President of Healthcare Sector Development

(Former CIO of Beaumont Hospitals)

Paul Peabody is Vice President of Healthcare Business Development for Oracle Corporation. In that role, he is responsible for developing sales strategies and campaigns for the healthcare technology market. Prior to that, he was with Beaumont Hospitals for 36 years and was responsible for Information Technology as the CIO for 30 years. He received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Health Care Administration from the University of Michigan.

Some of his major accomplishments include, introducing one of healthcare’s first bedside based electronic medical record systems in 1984, connecting over 2000 Beaumont physicians to the EMR remotely in 1987, generating over $60 million in supply chain savings through process re-engineering and work flow improvement, managing the hospital patient billing services and reducing net A/R to a best ever 43 days and installing Epic in the newly acquired Grosse Pointe hospital in a record 4.5 months. His proudest achievement is introducing Industrial Engineering into IT and establishing a cooperative education partnership with Kettering University, one of the leading engineering schools in the country.

Paul is active in the Society for Information Management and is a past president and on the Board of the Detroit Chapter of SIM. He is a Trustee of the Kettering University Board of Directors. He teaches in the EMBA program, and is a member of the Board of Visitors for the Oakland University School of Business.

Eric Berridge
Co-founder
Bluewolf

At the end of the dot com bubble burst Eric Berridge saw an opportunity. Layoffs, consolidations and bankruptcies raged around him. Amidst the chaos, Eric took a risky gamble and co-founded Bluewolf, which today is the world’s largest leading provider of professional services for on-demand software applications. Berridge’s vision to see a marketplace need for enterprise consulting services that were affordable, added measurable value and were iterative led to the birth of Bluewolf, which turned a profit in six months. Today, Bluewolf successfully works with more than 1,000 organizations to help them adopt on-demand solutions. Prior to founding Bluewolf, Berridge held various sales and management positions at The Oracle Corporation and The Interworld Corporation. He has a B.A. in Shakespearean Literature from U.C. Berkeley and an M.B.A. in Entrepreneurial Finance from New York University, and lives with his wife and three children outside of New York City.

Robert C. Bobb
Emergency Financial Advisor
Detroit Public Schools

Robert C. Bobb has served as Emergency Financial Manager of the 87,000-student Detroit Public Schools since March 2, 2009. A one-year appointment by Michigan Governor Jennifer Granholm was extended through March 1, 2011 in October 2009.

Mr. Bobb holds more than 30 years executive management experience in both the private and public sectors. He is the owner, President and CEO of the LAPA Group, LLC, a multi-faceted private/public sector consulting firm. He was elected city-wide as the President of the Washington, DC Board of Education in November 2006. Mr. Bobb is the former City Administrator and Deputy Mayor for Washington, D.C. and served as the District of Columbia’s Homeland Security Advisor. He managed a workforce of approximately 20,000 employees and an annual budget of $8 billion dollars. He served as the City Manager of Oakland, California and Executive Director of the Oakland Redevelopment Agency, City Manager of Richmond, Virginia, City Manager of Santa Ana, California, and City Manager of Kalamazoo, Michigan. Mr. Bobb holds the distinction of having served on a continuous basis as the longest tenured African-American City Manager/City Administrator in the nation. He is an expert on the issues facing urban government in the realms of education, economic development, community and neighborhood development, municipal budgeting and finances, contract negotiations, public/private partnerships of sports franchises, libraries and recreation facilities, and social problems such as crime and grime.

Karlin Bohnert
Chief Information Officer
RGIS

Karlin Bohnert is CIO of RGIS, which provides global inventory services to multiple industries in 48 countries. She has extensive experience in creating business value through IT innovation for major corporations like Wal-Mart, Home Depot, Prudential, Nationwide Insurance and others. She has been able to apply a unique IT perspective across the multiple industries, drawing on the vast and deep experiences gained from each company.

During her thirty-five years of experience, Karlin has held senior IT positions for major corporations where she has been a catalyst in the IT development for global expansions, the IT strategy for mergers and acquisitions, and the technical company transformations to support company growth and strategic advantage.

Karlin has also held IT Advisory Board positions at Ohio State University, University of Oregon, and the University of Arkansas. She is a frequent guest speaker at CIO Bootcamps, and other professional seminars and sessions.

She is a tireless advocate serving on non-profit Board of Directors and offering her time and efforts to support various non-profit initiatives. She can often be found swinging a hammer on Habitat for Humanity and/or Rebuilding Together events.

Her philosophy is voiced best by author George Matthew Adams, “There is no such thing as a ‘self-made’ man. We are made up of thousands of others. Everyone who has ever done a kind deed for us, or spoken one word of encouragement to us, has entered into the make-up of our character and of our thoughts, as well as our success.”

Michael Lock
Vice President of Sales and Operations
Google Enterprise

Michael oversees the Americas Sales and Operations organization for Google’s Enterprise division. Since joining Google in 2005, Michael has helped rapidly expand Google’s footprint within the global Enterprise marketplace. Currently, he is responsible for teams driving customer acquisition of Google’s Enterprise offerings in the product areas of Search, Maps, Earth, Apps and Postini.

A 25-year veteran of the enterprise information technology industry, Michael began his career at IBM where he held roles in the general systems and enterprise systems divisions. He moved to Silicon Valley as a sales and marketing executive for Oracle in the 90′s and subsequently, took positions in several Silicon Valley start-ups. Michael played a pivotal role in the success and eventual acquisition of Virage, a pioneer of multimedia search and content management software.

Michael holds a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Wilfrid Laurier University in Waterloo, Ontario, Canada.

Mark McDonald
Group Vice President, Head of Research
Gartner

Mark McDonald heads up the global research team for Gartner Executive Programs, a $200 million dollar business unit at Gartner Inc headquartered in Stamford CT. Mark is responsible for the global CIO agenda and developing market leading research supporting more than 3,500 CIO members.

Mark works with CIOs from around the world on issues of business architecture, business process, innovation, the future of IT, and the application of information to processes, products, and services. He is the author of case studies including the New York Stock Exchange, Ford Motor Company, Transport for London, BNSF, CEMEX, among others.

Mark has extensive experience working with business and technology executives. Prior to joining Gartner, Mark was a partner with Accenture where he was responsible for the Centre for Process Excellence. Prior to those responsibilities, Mark was a release manager and solutions developer for Accenture.

Mark currently lives outside Chicago, he graduated from Colgate University with a bachelor’s degree in political science and economics, he has a Masters from Trinity College, Hartford CT in Economics and Finance and a Ph.D. in Technology Policy Management from TU Delft in the Netherlands.

Mark is the co-author of The e-Process Edge (McGraw Hill 2000) and Architecting the Enterprise (TU Delft 2005). He has also authored numerous articles and studies on the application of technology to create business value.

Stephen Pickett
Senior Vice President and Chief Information Officer
Penske Corporation

Stephen Pickett is Senior Vice President and Chief Information Officer at Penske Corporation, a closely-held diversified transportation services company which includes: Penske Truck Leasing Corporation; Penske Motor Group, Inc; Penske Automotive Group, Inc.; Penske Transportation Components, LLC; Transportation Resource Partners, LLC; Penske Performance, Inc.; and Penske Racing, Inc. Penske Corporation and its subsidiaries manage and operate businesses with annual revenues approximating $14 billion and employ 36,000 people at more than 1,700 worldwide locations. Prior to joining Penske Corporation, Pickett spent many years in the automobile industry with OEMs on two continents (American Motors, Volkswagen) and automotive suppliers in North America. He also held the position of President of SIM, is a member of their Advanced Practices Council and a member of the SIM Detroit board. Established in 1968, the Society for Information Management (SIM) is the premier network for IT leaders comprised of over 3,600 members, including CIOs, senior IT executives, prominent academicians, consultants, and other IT leaders In partnership with its 30 chapters, SIM provides resources and programs inspired by IT leaders for IT leaders that enable CIOs to further develop the leadership capabilities of themselves and the key and emerging leaders in their organizations. He plays an important role in the local community as Chairman of Oakland Family Services a private, nonprofit, 501(c)(3) human service organization established in 1921, OFS has been dedicated to strengthening families by providing quality treatment, education and prevention services throughout southeastern Michigan. Pickett holds as Bachelor of Science degree from Michigan State University and an MBA from the Advanced Management Program at Michigan State University.

Jesse J. Strittmater
Vice President/ Chief Information Officer
Life Fitness

Mr. Jesse Strittmater is currently VP and CIO of Life Fitness, a Brunswick company. He is a highly skilled, and experienced IT/IT Management professional, with over 20 years of technology, technology management, and consulting experience. Mr. Strittmater’s broad background of implementing and leading technology initiatives includes Help Desk, LAN/WAN, Telecom, Data Warehouse, DBA, and Development projects. He has a proven track record of team building, both from scratch and to improve or grow.

Jesse came to Life Fitness in 1992, after 2 ½ years of consulting, as a Help Desk Technician. Since that time he has held roles in Operations, Network Services, Data Warehousing, Technology IT Director, Applications IT Director and VP / CIO. He holds an undergraduate degree in Electrical Engineering Technology from DeVry University and MBA from Benedictine University.

Jesse was the DBA in the original implementation of Oracle at Life Fitness, he started its first Intranet, iLife and was on the original Data Warehouse development team. Jesse has the experience to discuss a multitude of IT issues, while still representing those issues succinctly to the business.

Jesse is lives in Glen Ellyn, IL with his wife Betsy, daughter Karoline and sons Erik and Patrik. Jesse has coached in the Glen Ellyn Golden Eagles football program for the past 6 years and is also involved in coaching Junior Hilltopper lacrosse. Jesse is also an active participant in local Tri-athalons and Duathalons.


Ken Theis
CIO and Director of the Michigan Department of Technology, Management & Budget
State of Michigan

As the CIO for the State of Michigan and Director for the Michigan Department of Technology, Management & Budget (DTMB), Mr. Theis heads an agency of nearly 2,500 employees providing quality, cost-effective business services through a fully-integrated information, communications and technology infused service organization.

Mr. Theis came to the State of Michigan from the General Motors Corporation where he held several key business and leadership positions. He has extensive background in transforming business processes and developing successful teams to tackle the most complex projects. While at General Motors, his accomplishments included leading the systems implementation and IT reorganization of the sales and marketing functions within General Motors, which included the reorganization of six General Motors marketing divisions into one centralized sales and marketing organization.

Mr. Theis was named by InformationWeek as one of the top 50 CIOs in federal, state, and local government. He was also recognized on the “Premier 100” list by ComputerWorld magazine, placing him in the “Best in Class” as one of the top ten technology leaders in the country. Mr. Theis currently serves as a board member on the Harvard Policy Group as well as Harvard’s Leadership for a Networked World program. He received the General Motors Chairman’s Honors Award and was also the recipient of the General Motors CIO Award.

Mr. Theis received his B.S. at Ferris State University and M.B.A. at Northwood University.
