With educational enrollment in technology degrees dramatically dropping (particularly among women), Midwestern companies face a looming crisis in recruiting and retaining high aptitude individuals in technical roles and leadership positions. This is a dramatic challenge that could further weaken our corporations, institutions and overall economy.

As part of a robust agenda, Midwest Technology Leaders will be taking the opportunity on the initial night, of its June 4th/5th event, to host a CELEBRATION of accomplishment – and to donate back to groups who make technology accomplishment possible.

MTL will be contributing 50% of the proceeds from the June 4th awards event and cocktail party to two foundations: the Society for Information Management Foundation and the Michigan Council of Women In Technology Foundation. Both of these organizations are dedicated to providing pragmatic assistance to talented individuals, who would like to enter or stay in the technology field.

In its 5th year, the MCWT Foundation (www.mcwtf.org) has a particularly energetic 2008 program for girls and women, including its:

  • Annual Summer Camp for 4th through 7th graders in July
  • 3 separate high school programs for budding female technologists
  • The sponsorship of 8 high school robotics teams
  • An annual Website creation contest for high school students, from over 30 southeastern Michigan schools
  • An annual symposium dedicated to providing women and university students with "soft skills" not taught in the classroom but crucial for career development
  • And a scholarship/grant award series which supports 2 college student, 1 Masters Degree candidate, 1 research grant candidate with tuitions – and 3 other students with hardware/software to support their academic careers

The philanthropic awards celebration and cocktail party is open to the public.
